Today I wanna talk about those pearly whites! To be honest with you, my pearly whites haven’t been so bright lately. Seeing all the t.v. advertisements for teeth whitening are tempting but I rather do it the natural, safe way. Teeth whitening can be expensive, cause sensitivity and brittle teeth. I prefer NOT!
To fix my dull smile I started making my own toothpaste, main ingredients are charcoal and coconut oil. Charcoal is very known for whitening teeth, preventing decay and bad breath. Coconut oil is known for fighting bacteria, preventing teeth from rotting and cures cavities! For a refreshing smell I add eucalyptus oil which is known for handling plaque. So whenever your smile seems a little dull I recommend making your own toothpaste.
Oil pulling with coconut oil is very beneficial and can be substituted as a mouth wash. Swishing a tablespoon of coconut oil for 20 mins will help get rid of plaque, fight bacteria, prevent/cure cavities and whiten your teeth! Brushing your teeth with coconut oil and peppermint oil would be just as beneficial if you prefer not to swish for 20 mins. These methods are way safer, a lot of toothpastes and mouth washes on the market have fluoride in them which effects the pineal gland. So lets brighten that smile the healthy way, I hope I’ve been helpful. Check back later for more health tips!
Welcome back, Beauties!
You’re probably due to get your nails filled and like every girl, you already know what color you want! Never mind the color right now, let’s talk more about that acrylic … “Acrylics protect my nails and keeps them strong” you may think! WRONG! Getting acrylics does the complete opposite. From them constantly shaving your nail away just to lay acrylic on top your nail is as thin as a pencil shaving. Your nails are now depending on the acrylic to grow. Not to mention that with acrylics your nails are inflexible so if you’re not careful you’re more prone to a painful, bloody crack or break in the nail.
While sitting down in the nail salon just imagine you breathing in all the harmful toxins coming from the chemicals they use in their acrylic, gels and polish. Seems like a death trap to me. Not only do acrylics place limitation on you and thin out your nails, they also make you more prone to getting fungus under the acrylic. DISGUSTING RIGHT!? Now onto gel, is gel bad for your nails too? YES, gel is bad for your nails because they cause just as much damage as acrylic.
Gel polish involves UV lighting which can cause cancer (like everything else in America) … not only is cancer the worry but they can cause your nails to thin out as well. This can happen while you’re getting the gel filed or shaved off or soaked off with acetone (which dries out your nails). “So if acrylics and gels are bad what about regular nail polish?” Regular nail polishes are filled with toxins that shouldn’t be inhaled, let alone be painted on our nails!
The same goes for nail polish remover, it’s very toxic and can cause harm to the eyes and lungs due to acetone. So it’s best to stay away from it. So what do you do now? You can’t live without your nails painted? Don’t fret, I have a solution!
You can always get non-toxic nail polish online, they are free from all toxic chemicals that could hurt your health. Or you could be more authentic and make your very own nail polish! You can do this by buying clear non-toxic nail polish and adding mica powder. Another way to make nail polish is to mix olive oil and henna powder until it gets pasty. Be very careful with henna because it will stain, use a small brush to paint your nails.
If you want the color to be bold, let it sit for at least 60 mins. Then remove the surplus and you’re done! A good replacement for nail polish remover is vinegar and lime. All you have to do is pour some warm water in a small bowl and soak your nails in it for 15 mins. Then rub vinegar and lime on your nails with a cotton ball until the polish comes off. So Beauty, are you still going to get your nails filled?
Welcome back Beauties!
Let’s just say you got asked out on a date. Your hair is popping, skin glowing and that outfit you have on is gorg! While you’re at the dinner table you go to reach for the salt and BOOM! You realize your nails are something treacherous! Just makes you cringe doesn’t it? Well I’m here to help prevent that from happening.
We often over look our nails because we’re so focused on slaying our hair and having skin as soft as a baby’s bottom. Our nails need some loving too! “But what can I do besides get my nails done?” you may wonder. The same way we treat our hair with hair masks and our face with a face masks, why can’t we treat our nails with a nail mask? Nail masks are incredibly amazing, it brings my nails to life!
I love to make my personal nail mask with honey, coconut oil, tea tree oil and apple cider vinegar. The honey softens and hydrates the cuticles which is important because as I’ve mentioned in a previous post, the cuticles are what gives your nails the nutrients and protection it needs to grow. Coconut oil is what keeps your nails strong, stopping them from peeling and snagging. The tea tree oil can help you if you have discoloration and like coconut oil, it strengthens the nails. Apple cider vinegar will aid you in nail growth if you have brittle nails, helping them grow at a faster rate!
I typically mix all my ingredients together in a bowl and sit my fingers in the mixture for 10-15 mins before washing it off. Doing this consistently my nails have gotten a lot stronger and my cuticles have gotten so smooth. So the next time you’re treating your hair and or skin, don’t forget to treat your nails! I hope I’ve been helpful, please check back later for more tips.
No one wants stinking armpits, which is why we use deodorant of course! But is it safe to use? Well, would you eat deodorant? No? So why put it on your skin? If it’s not safe to eat, it’s not good for your skin! Many deodorants have quite a few toxins lurking in them that causes clogged pores, hormonal imbalance, irritated skin, organ problems and or allergic reactions. You may not be experiencing any of these issues as we speak, but that doesn’t mean problems won’t arise in the future.
Aluminum, steareths, propylene gylcol and artificial coloring are just a few toxic ingredients to stay away from! Jason deodorant is a good deodorant to pick up. It has NO aluminum, parabens, phthalates or propylene gycol. Not all natural deodorants work the same for everyone so it could take some time to find the one that works just right for you! I prefer to make my own deodorant because I know the exact ingredients, it’s all natural and affordable!
A few ingredients I like to use in my deodorant potion are Shea butter so it doesn’t clog my pores, Baking soda so it absorbs odor and Bentonite clay to absorb sweat. But before trying to switch over to using natural deodorants, it’s important to detox your armpits first! You can do this by using Bentonite clay and Apple cider vinegar. Mix ingredients together thoroughly and apply it to your armpits. Let it sit for 15 mins before rinsing it off.
I recommend repeating this process for a week to fully detox your arm pits. Apple cider vinegar may cause a burning sensation so adding water or leaving it on for a shorter amount of time would help with that issue. Chapped lips can be one of the most annoying things you could experience. No matter how many times you may lick your lips and or how much water you drink, your lips are still dry! If you’re experiencing this problem, I have a solution for you! I love to use coconut oil on my lips. Whenever I feel my lips getting dry I apply coconut oil and my lips instantly feel softer!
Some ingredients in chap sticks make your lips worse causing dryness, so you’re only wasting your money! Lip scrubs are also very effective for dry lips. The most known DIY lip scrub is honey and sugar. Mix honey and sugar together in a small container to store it in, make sure to add enough sugar to exfoliate your lips! My favorite ingredients to use in my lip scrub potion are honey, coconut oil, sugar and peppermint oil. I use one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of sugar, a pinch of coconut oil and a drop or two of peppermint oil (make sure to store it away in the refrigerator to keep it fresh).
So pucker up beauties! I hope I’ve been helpful. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me! Come check back later for daily tips.
We all at some point, experience unwanted dark spots, acne and or an uneven skin tone. Turmeric can be the cure for all of that and much more! I love to use turmeric under my eyes when I’m experiencing dark circles or as a face mask to help even out my skin tone by erasing blemishes. After making a turmeric face mask my skin instantly feels so amazingly soft and so bright, leaving my skin glowing! So if you have unwanted scars, oily skin and acne, turmeric is the answer for you!
It’s important to always start on a clean face. As I said in my previous post, I love to wash my face with black soap (preferably Raw African Black Soap). I then like to tone my face with my apple cider toning potion, let it dry then apply my turmeric & honey mask (I mix honey and turmeric to the thickness of my liking) and let it sit for 15 mins. I rinse my face with cool water and pat my face dry with a paper towel. I reapply my apple cider toning potion, let it dry and apply my favorite face moisturizer.
Face detoxing can also help you battle acne as well as black heads and should be done daily. A face detox cleanses your pores and improves the skin tone. I love to use Moroccan red clay powder because it’s for sensitive skin and it’s pure powder! It cleanses and purifies my skin, making me glow. I like to add a few capsules of vitamin E because it helps heal acne scars as well as keeping your skin looking ageless! When I do the Moroccan red clay powder mask I do the same process I do with my turmeric mask instead just using Moroccan red clay powder instead.
